See you in September!!

September 4th, 2012

The month of September brings so many changes! School starts back up again (yeah!!), the weather starts to cool off and the sewing machine dust covers come off. While I am definately thrilled about the first two things, the arrival of the fall sewing season has me the most excited. I am lining up projects leftand right and I feel newly inpiried. We are offering a bunch of new classes and I am currently working 3 different samples using some of the great new fabrics wehave recently recieved! I always feel like September is the best month for changes and goals and this year I have plenty of both! I hope all of you are feeling just as optimistic!! See you soon and Happy Sewing, Kim

Chickadee

July 30th, 2012

chickadeeI just finished sewing up this lovely sample and I thought I would share it with you! I am a tree person, so this fabric just spoke to me, I love the colours and the boldness of the prints. I changed the pattern a little, but mostly stayed true to it. I am going to put it on my sewing room wall to bring a little nature inside!

Don’t forget…Tomorrow is the final day of the Yours to Discover Shop Hop!!

A mothers love

June 10th, 2012

I recently had a customer come in with a wonderful old treasure, a beautiful hand made quilt. The quilt had been hand pieced and hand quilted by her mother when she was just a girl and it was exquisite! It was a log cabin quilt made with all the scraps and feed sacks her mother could get her hands on. What really impressed though me was the way she spoke about this quilt and all that it meant to her, you could just see all of the love and respect she had for her mother, it was like she could feel her mothers love wrapped up in that quilt. She told us how hard her mother worked feeding, clothing and caring for her children, how she would make bread to trade for things her children needed and taught them all of the skills they would need in life. It truly is those simple things that shape the people we become in life and I truly hope that one day my daughters will talk about me the way she spoke about her.

Spring Cleaning

June 3rd, 2012

My family and I spent the day spring cleaning, out with the old (winter wear) and in with the new (bathing suits). We emptied closets and rearranged shelfs, we donated what we don’t wear anymore and found places for those items piling up in our stash spots. it was alot of work but we all felt much better when it was done. A less cluttered space makes for a less cluttered mind.
I am planning on tackling my sewing room this week to give it a spring cleaning as well and I am hoping the same thing will happen. I plan on organizing my projects, putting all the items needed for each project together, surrendering all of those fabrics that I know I just won’t use, and organizing the stash that I do use. I think that will make it much easier and more fun to be able to pull a bin off the shelf and just start sewing! As an added bonus, I will get to fondle my favorite fabrics, open them up and sort them into pretty little piles, that’s what I call material therapy! I will let you know how it goes until then, happy sewing, Kim
